Things to See and Do

Pearling

There are a couple of ways to hear of Broome’s intriguing pearling history and you can do it in a group or privately. See the old luggers on display and hear of the rigors of the divers of yesteryear.
The Japanese cemetery is a graphic reminder of the dangers that faced the early pearl divers.

Not far out of town at Willie Creek, you will be fascinated by the workings of an operational pearl farm and how a Broome pearl is farmed.

Have the credit card ready when you walk around Broome’s Chinatown as you will see exquisite jewellery pieces featuring Australian South Sea Pearls – the finest pearls in the world.

 Fishing

Reef fishing or game fishing - cast a line from the jetty or the beach – or you could hire a dinghy and go after a barramundi in the creek system. Ever caught a barra on the fly? While you’re there you could put a net or two down to entice a mud crab, a gourmet’s delight! Life is full of big decisions for the avid angler around here.

Adventure Tours

Broome is a gateway to the gorges and numerous other attractions of the Kimberley. To the north of Broome lies the Dampier Peninsula including Cape Leveque. There are several tour operators offering day or extended tours. You need more than one day to see much of it but that’s fine by us – we will store surplus luggage for you and have it back in your room on your return

You will find loads of things to see and places to go, whether on your own or on a tour or charter. Whole books have been devoted to the subject, so here are just a few of the possibilities:

Out and About

Visit historic Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest operating open-air theatre

If bird life is your interest, a visit to the Broome Bird Sanctuary is a must.
Tours vary with the time of year but it must be good as wader birds come all the way from Siberia to star in the show.

Aboriginal guides will show you Broome from a different perspective and give you an insight into their culture and lifestyle.

A couple of charter operators offer flights over the spectacular features such as the Buccaneer Archipelago including the horizontal waterfall and the Bungle Bungle.

Or play a round of golf. The Broome Golf Club is a fully-grassed 18 hole course with spectacular views from the clubhouse. If tennis is more your passion, the Broome Tennis Club is just across the road and you can join in club activities or hire a court.

A hovercraft flight on Roebuck Bay is a delightful way to get a different perspective of Broome’s history, environment and prolific bird life.

Malcolm Douglas will get you up close and personal (but not close enough to be on the menu) with some fearsome reptiles at his crocodile park.

Have you found time yet to get to beautiful Cable Beach? Miles and miles of magnificent beach where you can get away from the crowd and bask in the sun, the sand and the sea.

We can help you with any tour bookings you wish to make.
